According to Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO), Pakistan has one of the lowest literacy rates in the world.  The literacy rate at 55 per cent and Pakistan stands at 160th in total countries of the world. Gender disparities are apparent when male literacy is around 70%. HELP provides opportunities for both genders and children to gain an education or to get skilled training qualifying them for better jobs and hence a better future. Education and skill not only liberate women but also give them them a chance to become earning members of the family and together build a better future as a working family. Women are educated in how to manage small businesses and enterpreneurship skills. They learn crafts and how to sell them. HELP has also provided schooling to children and other educational opportunities to adults.

Pakistan Today Faces An Education Crisis of Unprecedented Proportions

  1. There are 25 million boys and girls out of school that’s nearly half of all children in the country.
  2. Of those children who do go to school, the vast majority receive an education of poor quality.
  3. 48% of government schools are in a dangerous or dilapidated condition and lack of basic facilities such as furniture, bathrooms, boundary walls, electricity and drinking water.
  4. On any given day, 18% of teachers are absent from the classroom.
  5. Corporal punishment is widespread and remains unchecked.
  6. Budget allocations for education are insufficient and funds that are available are not spent effectively.

Under the Constitution of Pakistan, Article 25-A, it is the responsibility of the state to provide free and compulsory education to every child between ages 5 to 16.

HELP provides opportunities for both genders of children to gain an education or to get skilled training qualifying them for a better job and hence a better future. Education and skill not only liberate women but also give them a chance to become earning member of the family and together build a better future as a working family. Women are educated in how to manage small businesses and entrepreneurship skills. They learn crafts and how to sell them. HELP has also provided schooling to children and other educational opportunities to adults. Education especially that of girls and women saves lives reduces inequality and transforms communities.

HELP believes a good quality and publicly-funded education should be available to all children. We work in many communities across Sargodha to help girls and boys get the education they need. By empowering local communities and supporting organizations at all levels, we are working to remove barriers and aim to help all children realize the full potential of education.

In many poor areas, education is chronically underfunded. HELP campaigns for a greater share of funds to be spent on education in ways that benefit girls and marginalized children.
